Sindh Chief Minister Orders Expedited Land Acquisition for M-6 Motorway

KARACHI: In a decisive move to address delays in the M-6 Hyderabad-Sukkur Motorway project, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has mandated that the acquisition of 7,226.32 acres of land be completed by August 7, 2025. The order follows a meeting at CM House focused on overcoming the legal and logistical hurdles impeding progress.

Among the attendees were Chief Secretary Asif Haider Shah, SMBR Baqaiullah Anar, and other senior officials. Commissioners from Hyderabad, Sukkur, and Shaheed Benazirabad participated via video link, alongside the Chairman of the National Highway Authority (NHA).

A total of 7,226.32 acres is required for the motorway, with 884.04 acres owned by the Sindh government and 6,342.28 acres privately owned. The chief minister declared that Rs 4.5 billion has been allocated for bridge financing, while the NHA will contribute Rs 6.27 billion.

Specific land acquisition targets were set, including 342.15 acres in Hyderabad and 1,641.38 acres in Matiari, to be secured within two days. Further instructions were given for acquiring land in Shaheed Benazirabad, Naushahro Feroze, Khairpur, and Sukkur by the August deadline.

The chief minister stressed the motorway’s importance for regional connectivity and economic development in Sindh. The Chairman of NHA committed to completing the tendering process by February 2026, with physical construction slated to begin in March 2026.
