Sindh Chief Minister Launches Prosecution Roadmap, Calls for Enhanced Legal Reforms

Karachi: Chief Minister of Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah, has directed the Sindh Police to intensify efforts against gender-based violence and abuse, protect minority rights, and address issues concerning forced conversions and the rights of homosexuals. These directives were issued during the unveiling of the Sindh Prosecution Roadmap 2030-2025 at a local hotel, an event organized by the Sindh Criminal Prosecution Services Department in collaboration with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

According to Chief Minister Sindh, the roadmap is a strategic initiative aimed at enhancing the efficiency of prosecutors and the judiciary, with an emphasis on upholding the rule of law and promoting justice and equality across the province. The event was attended by lawyers, civil society members, provincial secretaries, and diplomats.

Chief Minister Shah highlighted the legislative achievements of the Sindh Assembly, including significant prison reforms, making it the first legislative assembly in Asia to introduce such measures. He also noted the active role of the Sindh Criminal Prosecution Service Department in addressing national legal challenges, such as those outlined by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).

The roadmap outlines the challenges within the criminal justice system, including the protection of transgender rights, human trafficking issues, and minority rights. Chief Minister Shah called for collective efforts to implement these plans effectively, ensuring a fair and equitable justice system for the people of Sindh and Pakistan.

The Chief Minister praised the determination of the Sindh Criminal Prosecession Service Department and acknowledged UNODC’s support in preparing this comprehensive roadmap. He stressed the importance of having a strong prosecution service in Sindh that operates on measurable, objective, and actionable policies, emphasizing evidence-based decision-making.

The event also featured speeches from other notable figures, including Provincial Minister of Agriculture and Anti-corruption Establishment Sardar Mohammad Bakhsh Mehr, Chief Secretary Asif Haider Shah, and representatives from UNODC, underscoring the collaborative effort in achieving these ambitious legal reforms.
