Karachi, Caretaker Chief Justice of Sindh Maqbool Baqar highlighted the significance of the Centre for Autism Rehabilitation and Training (C-ARTS) as a beacon of hope in South Asia for children with autism, during the inauguration of three new facilities at C-ARTS, Korangi.
According to Chief Minister Sindh, Justice Baqar, speaking at a ceremony organized by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPD), lauded C-ARTS for its comprehensive approach towards autism care, which includes diagnosis, treatment, and employment opportunities for autistic children. He noted that the free services provided by C-ARTS are rare in Pakistan, especially given the financial constraints often associated with special needs care.
The Chief Minister praised C-ARTS for its role in enhancing professional training and autism awareness, thereby transforming the landscape of autism support in the region. He emphasized the importance of empowering parents and conducting community awareness programs to create a supportive environment for children with autism.
C-ARTS has shown remarkable growth since its inception in 2018, expanding from one center in Gulistan-e-Johar to additional facilities in Korangi, Hyderabad, and Orangi Town. Plans are underway to open three new centers in Gambat, Shaheed Benazirabad, and another in Hyderabad, which will support a total of 550 children with autism.
During the inauguration, Justice Baqar opened the first indoor sports facility designed for exceptional children, a farming facility named C-ARTS, and a café run by children with autism. These initiatives are part of C-ARTS’s vocational training program, showcasing the capabilities and potential of these children.
The Chief Minister’s visit included interactions with the children at C-ARTS, demonstrating a personal commitment to their development and well-being. Secretary DEPD Taha Farooqui briefed the CM about the department’s efforts in establishing educational, health, and training centers for children with disabilities.
Ms. Irum Rizwan also addressed the occasion, emphasizing the critical role of such initiatives in fostering inclusive societies. The CM’s speech underscored the importance of a world where every child can dream, aspire, and achieve, regardless of their abilities, and called for renewed commitment to building a more inclusive and compassionate society.
