Karachi, In a significant move to support education and empowerment for differently abled children, the Caretaker Sindh Chief Minister, Justice (Retd) Maqbool Baqar, has announced an increase in the annual grant for IDA RIEU from Rs10 million to Rs15 million. Additionally, he has donated three pianos to facilitate the musical aspirations of these children.
According to Chief Minister Sindh, this announcement was made during the opening ceremony of the inclusive Youth Parliament at IDA RIEU. The ceremony was attended by the President of the Ida Rieu Welfare Association (IRWA), Nadira Panjwani, Secretary of the Department of Differently Abled Persons, Taha Farooqi, among others. The Chief Minister acknowledged the exemplary service of IDA RIEU in the education of differently abled children, which prompted the decision to increase their grant.
During the event, Justice Baqar observed the children playing the piano and, noting that four children were sharing one piano, announced the provision of three additional pianos. He emphasized that these instruments would enable the children to enjoy playing their favorite music and further develop their talents.
The Chief Minister highlighted the role of the Ida Rieu Schools and Colleges for the Blind and Deaf in taking this initiative and congratulated the participants selected for the Youth Parliament. He remarked on the importance of empowering diverse young voices for an inclusive Pakistan, inspired by the vision and mission of the Ida Rieu Welfare Association. This organization has been dedicated to providing quality education and rehabilitation services for differently abled individuals for over a century, playing a leading role in creating a more accessible and equitable Pakistan.
Justice Baqar also noted that the efforts of Ida Rieu have enabled thousands of students to nurture their talents and contribute positively to society. He underscored the importance of celebrating pluralism as a nation, recognizing the challenges and responsibilities that come with ensuring equal rights, opportunities, and involvement in decision-making processes for all citizens.
The Youth Parliament, he explained, would have a dual impact. It will not only help participants understand the legislative process, study, and debate current laws but also collaborate to suggest solutions for a stronger Pakistan. The draft policy solutions prepared by IDA Rieu are expected to provide insights into the youth’s perspective and vision for an inclusive and strong Pakistan.
Justice Baqar encouraged the participants of the Ida Rieu youth parliament to engage actively and constructively in the event, emphasizing the importance of curiosity, respect, and open-mindedness in their participation.
This announcement represents a significant step towards enhancing educational and extracurricular opportunities for differently abled children in Sindh, reflecting the government’s commitment to inclusivity and empowerment.
