Karachi: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has expressed grave concerns over the recent emergence of polio cases in the province, directing the Health Department to accelerate efforts towards eradicating the disease. This follows reports of two new polio cases in Sindh, prompting a high-level review of the polio eradication initiatives.
According to Chief Minister Sindh, during the review meeting at the Chief Minister’s House, health officials presented details of the affected children and the response actions taken, including intensified vaccination drives. Health Minister Dr. Azra Fazal assured improvements in the child’s condition and discussed strategies to prevent further spread. The Chief Minister stressed the need for meticulous campaign execution, especially in high-risk areas, and underscored the importance of addressing under-reported cases and vulnerabilities in the migrant population. The meeting also touched on the importance of environmental surveillance, with recent samples showing mixed results across Karachi and other parts of Sindh. The Chief Minister called for community involvement and public awareness campaigns to bolster the polio eradication efforts.
