KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has approved an ambitious Rs100 billion master plan to transform Civil Hospital Karachi, with Rs50 billion allocated by the provincial government. The project seeks to double the hospital’s capacity and modernize its facilities while preserving its historical architecture.
According to Chief Minister Sindh, the meeting was held at CM House and included key stakeholders such as Minister of Health Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho, Chairman Pand D Najam Shah, and various prominent philanthropists. The plan aims to add 500 new beds to the hospital’s current capacity of 2,142. Modern vertical towers will replace outdated structures, incorporating new medical and surgical wards, an OPD, specialized hostels, and updated facilities for waste management.
Chief Minister Shah emphasized the importance of preserving the hospital’s historical structures. “I will completely restore the heritage building,” he stated, ensuring that historical elements are protected. To address traffic congestion, surrounding roads will be widened to facilitate better access for ambulances and patients. A board of public and private sector professionals will oversee the project’s implementation to expedite its completion.
