Karachi, The Sindh cabinet, led by Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, has taken significant steps to revitalize the province’s employment and healthcare sectors. Decisions made include lifting a ban on recruitment in government departments, extending the tenure of healthcare workers appointed during the COVID-19 pandemic, and enhancing operational capabilities in health and water services.
According to Chief Minister Sindh, the cabinet meeting focused on addressing vacancies across various government departments to stimulate employment and improve public services. The ban on recruitment, instated during the last tenure of the Sindh government, has been lifted, with directives to legal authorities to facilitate this process. This move is expected to offer considerable employment opportunities to the youth and enhance the functionality of government operations.
In the health sector, the cabinet has extended the employment of 705 doctors and staff nurses hired during the COVID-19 crisis until June 30, 2024. Additionally, financial provisions of Rs.2,036.785 million were approved to cover their salaries. The operationalization of 50 government dispensaries through the Public-Private Partnership Initiative Sindh (PPHI Sindh) and budgetary allocations for essential medical programs were also sanctioned to reinforce the province’s healthcare infrastructure.
For the Karachi Water and Sewerage Services Improvement Project (KWSSIP), the cabinet approved Rs646.756 million as the Sindh government’s contribution, aiming to enhance the city’s water and sewerage services.
The meeting further resulted in the approval of Rs400 million in grant-in-aid for Larkano University, to support its operational expenses and development projects. Amendments to the Sindh Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (SPPRA) Rules were also ratified to streamline procurement processes and ensure compliance with tax regulations.
These decisions mark a comprehensive effort by the Sindh cabinet to promote socio-economic growth, improve public health infrastructure, and ensure sustainable urban development in the province.
