Sindh Bolsters Heatwave Mitigation Efforts with Stabilization Camps and Public Awareness Campaigns

Karachi: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of Sindh has released a situation report detailing the progress of its Heatwave Response Plan from May 21 to July 15, 2024. The initiative includes the establishment of heat stabilization camps and enhanced coordination among disaster management departments to better manage the seasonal heatwave threats.

According to Provincial Disaster Management Authority, the response effort has involved close monitoring and coordination with District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs) and various humanitarian partners. A total of 294 heat stabilization camps have been set up across different districts, providing crucial support to affected communities. These camps have been instrumental in educating the public about heatwave risks through various channels, including print, electronic, and social media, with materials and messages approved by the PDMA. Additionally, local authorities have initiated a plantation drive to improve environmental conditions and mitigate the impact of heatwaves. Deputy Commissioners and chairpersons of DDMAs are actively visiting these camps, ensuring that operations run smoothly and that patients needing urgent care are safely transported to specialized heat stroke centers or hospitals.
