Sindh Assembly Holds Session for Speaker and Deputy Speaker Elections

Karachi, The Sindh Assembly is currently in session at the new provincial assembly building in Karachi, where members are casting their votes to elect the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the house. The session, chaired by Speaker Agha Siraj Ahmed Durrani, has initiated a secret ballot voting process to determine the new leadership within the assembly.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has nominated Syed Awais Qadir Shah for the position of Speaker and Naveed Anthony for Deputy Speaker. On the other side, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Pakistan has put forward Sofia Saeed Shah for the Speakership and Rashid Khan for the Deputy Speaker role.

The session also saw the swearing-in of nine independent candidates who have recently joined the Sunni Ittehad Council, along with a member from Jamaat-e-Islami, marking a significant moment at the beginning of the assembly’s proceedings.

This electoral process is a pivotal moment for the Sindh Assembly, setting the tone for the legislative agenda and governance in the province. The election results are eagerly awaited, as they will determine the assembly’s leadership and direction for the coming term.
