Amritsar, September 30, 2023 (PPI-OT):Hundreds of Sikhs staged a protest demonstration outside the Golden Temple in Amritsar city of the Indian state of Punjab demanding punishment for the killers of Sikh leader, Hardeep Singh Nijjar, in Canada.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the protesters outside the holiest of Sikh places holding posters of Nijjar shouted slogans asking India to stop extrajudicial operations against the Sikhs seeking creation of an independent state by separating Punjab from India.
Dal Khalsa leader, Paramjit Singh Mand, said, “It is time and opportunity for New Delhi to talk with Sikh leadership.” Dal Khalsa, which organized the protest, is advocating for a separate Sikh homeland.
Around 400 Sikhs participated in the protest and later held prayers at the temple for the release of political prisoners and for the well-being of exiled leaders, said Kanwar Pal, political affairs secretary of Dal Khalsa. We thank the Canadian government for exposing the Indian design, how India is operating on foreign soil, intervening in Canadian affairs, he said.
Sikhs in Canada staged massive protests outside India’s diplomatic missions on Monday, burning an Indian flag, while waiving the Khalistan flag.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau recently announced the involvement of Indian government’s agents in the brutal murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar in June Surrey city of British Columbia. Nijjar was an active leader of the Khalistan Movement. The announcement led to a diplomatic row between Canada and India.
