Significant Increase in Paramilitary Deployment Expected in Kashmir Ahead of Lok Sabha Elections

Srinagar, Indian authorities are preparing to deploy approximately 700 additional companies of paramilitary forces in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), ahead of the Lok Sabha elections scheduled for April–May this year. This move comes in addition to the already substantial presence of over 11 lakh troops from the Indian Army, Border Security Force, and other paramilitary units across the region.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the deployment aims to ensure the smooth conduct of the upcoming elections, with 635 companies slated for Jammu and Kashmir and 57 for the Ladakh region. This decision is part of a broader strategy by the Election Commission of India, which plans to deploy a total of 3400 companies throughout the country for election-related duties. The deployment will occur in phases, reflecting the scale of logistical operations undertaken by the Indian government to manage the electoral process.

In anticipation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the Jammu district, security measures have been significantly tightened across IIOJK. The district has been designated a no-fly zone for drones and quadcopters, effective immediately, as part of the comprehensive security arrangements being implemented.

The enhanced security presence and restrictions have raised concerns among local residents and observers, marking yet another phase of heightened military activity in the region. The deployment underscores the ongoing complexities and tensions in IIOJK, particularly in the context of the Lok Sabha elections and high-profile political visits.
