ISLAMABAD: Traffic accident calls in Islamabad during the Eid ul Fitr holidays saw a significant decline this year, with a 63 percent drop compared to the previous year. This reduction in road traffic incidents coincided with a rigorous enforcement campaign by the Islamabad Traffic Police, which issued over 3,400 challans for various traffic violations across the federal capital.
According to Islamabad Capital Police, the number of traffic accident calls decreased from 64 during the Eid holidays in 2025 to just 23 in 2026. Non-fatal accidents saw a reduction of 59 percent, falling from 17 to 7, while fatal accidents dropped by 80 percent, from 5 to 1.
In parallel, a special enforcement campaign was launched to ensure road safety and maintain smooth traffic flow. During this initiative, the Islamabad Traffic Police issued a total of 3,439 challans for violations including one-wheeling, failure to wear helmets, and the use of improper number plates. Additional fines were imposed for other infractions such as careless driving, illegal parking, lane violations, and failure to use seat belts.
The campaign also resulted in the impounding of 1,272 vehicles and motorcycles, with five FIRs registered against serious violations. Chief Traffic Officer Islamabad Capt. (R) Hamzah Humayun emphasized the importance of the special deployment of traffic personnel at key locations to manage the increased traffic during Eid. He credited the significant reduction in accidents to effective planning, strict enforcement, and public cooperation.
Capt. (R) Hamzah Humayun urged citizens to adhere to traffic rules and continue cooperating with law enforcement to maintain safe roads. He reinforced the department’s commitment to ongoing enforcement and awareness efforts aimed at reducing traffic violations and safeguarding lives.
