Shopian Hosts Conference on Unity and Social Reform


Srinagar: A significant one-day conference titled “Unity of the Ummah and Social Reform” convened at the Jamia Masjid in Jamanagri, Shopian district, focusing on societal issues and communal unity in the region of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.



According to Kashmir Media Service, the event was jointly organized by the Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulema (MMU), Jammu and Kashmir, and Karwan-e-Khatm-e-Nabuwwat. The conference attracted a host of renowned scholars, jurists, intellectuals, and a substantial public turnout, though Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, head of the MMU, was unable to attend due to a recent bereavement.



Prominent figures such as Maulana Muhammad Rahmatullah Mir Al-Qasimi, Grand Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam Farooqi, and others delivered speeches addressing various social challenges and the importance of unity. They emphasized the necessity of extending such dialogues to every district in the territory, particularly under the current social conditions.



The speakers reaffirmed their commitment to a united front against threats to societal harmony and lauded Mirwaiz’s leadership in confronting these issues. Additionally, they called on religious and social organizations, including NGOs and scholars, to actively participate in addressing societal challenges.



The conference concluded with Moulana M S Rehman Shams relaying a message from Mirwaiz e Kashmir, urging the community to adhere to the teachings of the Quran and Sunnah and to stand united against disruptive forces.



Mufti Mudassir Qadri, who organized the conference, expressed gratitude to all participants for their contributions to the successful dialogue.
