Shifting of detainees from IIOJK to Agra jail in India denounced

Srinagar, October 23, 2021 (PPI-OT):In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Hurriyat leaders and organizations have expressed serious concern over the shifting of illegally detained Kashmiris from various prisons of the Kashmir Valley to the Agra Jail in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

Twenty six persons who were arrested this month from different areas of the Kashmir Valley and subsequently booked under draconian law, Public Safety Act (PSA), were shifted to Agra jail, the other day.

APHC leader and the chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Social Peace Forum, Advocate Devinder Singh Behl, in a statement issued in Jammu condemned the shifting of the Kashmiri detainees to Agra Jail. He said that India would not be able to stifle the voice of Kashmiris through such brutal tactics.

He said during Indian Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to IIOJK, more than 50 additional companies of paramilitary forces have been deployed in the occupied territory, which has already been converted by India into the largest open air prisons in the world. Advocate Devender Singh Behl said lasting peace cannot be established in South Asia until India resolves the Kashmir dispute through dialogue process with Pakistan. He urged the world community to play its role in the settlement of the lingering dispute.

The Jammu and Kashmir Peoples League spokesman in a statement issued in Srinagar termed the shifting of detainees to Agra Jail as the worst example of state-repression. He said, the shifting of Tehreek Hurriyat Acting Chairman Ameer Hamza Shah, TeH activists Ramiz Raja, Mohammad Younis, Aadil Ahmad and 22 others to the Agra Jail has no justification and is being done out of political vengeance.

Condemning the slapping of PSA against the detainees, the spokesman said, this law has been termed as lawless law by the Amnesty International, but this draconian law is being used frequently in IIOJK to suppress the voice of the people. He appealed to the international human rights organizations to raise their voice against the unabated use of PSA in IIOJK by the Indian government.
