Shallow Westerly Trough Influences Weather in Northern Pakistan

Islamabad, A shallow westerly trough currently positioned over northern regions of the country is expected to bring light rain to isolated areas of Gilgit Baltistan and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday and Tuesday. Most parts of the nation are anticipated to experience mainly dry conditions during this period.

According to a news release by National Weather Forecasting Centre, on Monday, aside from the aforementioned light rain in select northern areas, a majority of the country will witness dry weather. By Tuesday, the forecast indicates a continuation of dry weather in most regions, with the addition of light snowfall over the higher mountain ranges in Gilgit Baltistan and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Over the past 24 hours, a blend of partly cloudy skies dominated a significant portion of the nation, with colder temperatures observed in the north. Isolated rain events were recorded in parts of upper Punjab, upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Khuzdar. Specific rainfall measurements include 11mm in Murree, 10mm in Kakul, and 7mm in Rawalakot, among other locations.

In terms of temperature, the day’s lowest recorded minimums were in Leh at -03°C and Kalam at 00°C.
