Islamabad: The National Emergencies Operations Center (NEOC) has released a high-alert weather advisory, forecasting severe weather conditions across the Pothohar region and parts of Upper and Central Punjab from the evening of April 18 to April 19, 2025. The advisory warns of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and isolated hailstorms, which could impact infrastructure and everyday activities.
The regions expected to be affected include Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and several districts in Upper Punjab such as Attock, Chakwal, Gujrat, and Jhelum. Central Punjab areas including Faisalabad, Hafizabad, Jhang, Khushab, Mianwali, Lahore, Narowal, Sahiwal, Sargodha, and Sheikhupura are also on alert.
The NEOC has highlighted potential risks, including power outages due to falling trees and damage to structures, vehicles, and power lines from strong winds and hailstorms. Agricultural activities might suffer, particularly those involving crops and glass-surfaced outdoor structures. Reduced visibility due to rain and dust is expected to increase the likelihood of road accidents.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) advises the public to stay informed through its mobile application, “Pak NDMA Disaster Alert.” Residents and tourists are encouraged to follow the latest weather forecasts and heed local safety advisories, particularly in landslide-prone areas.
Travelers are advised to check road conditions before setting out and to avoid unnecessary travel during the storm. The NDMA emphasizes the importance of taking precautions to mitigate risks associated with these severe weather conditions and assures that authorities are on high alert to manage any emergencies that may arise.
