Srinagar, Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) is facing a significant reduction in power generation capacity, with a decrease of nearly 85 percent attributed to severe water shortages. The region’s total power generation capacity, usually at 1200 Megawatts, has been severely impacted.
According to Kashmir Media Service, H Rajesh Prasad, Principal Secretary of the Power Development Department (PDD), has acknowledged the substantial shortfall in power generation within the territory. “From the J and K pool, we have a power generation capacity of 1200 MWs. However, due to the shortage of water, we are generating only 150 MWs during the ongoing winters,” Prasad stated.
This drastic reduction in power generation has resulted in Jammu and Kashmir becoming more reliant on the power supply from India to meet its energy needs, especially during the winter season when demand typically increases.
