Karachi: Severe rainfall and thunderstorms have been affecting Karachi, the capital of Sindh province in southern Pakistan, since March 17, leading to casualties and significant damage. The adverse weather conditions have resulted in the death of at least 19 people and injuries to numerous others.
According to Relief Web, the fatalities include 13 individuals who lost their lives due to a wall collapse in the Mawachh Goth Baldia area. Six additional deaths occurred in separate incidents across Karachi. The wall collapse also resulted in injuries to at least 50 people, and some residents have been evacuated from affected areas.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) and NOAA-CPC indicate that more rain is expected in Sindh province on March 20, although forecasts suggest drier conditions will prevail on March 21 and 22. The ongoing severe weather has raised concerns about further incidents as the region remains on high alert.
