Senior Pakistani Judges Visit Washington to Strengthen Judicial Ties and Enhance Legal Systems


Islamabad: A high-level delegation of senior judges from Pakistan, led by Honorable Justice Shahid Waheed of the Supreme Court, visited the Pakistan Embassy in Washington, focusing on judicial exchanges and cooperation with the United States to enhance dispute resolution and judicial efficiency.



According to Press Information Department, Ambassador Rizwan Saeed Sheikh welcomed the delegation that included justices from the High Courts of Lahore, Sindh, Peshawar, and Islamabad, along with district judiciary judges and the Additional Attorney General. The visit also saw the participation of Mrs. Martina Polášek, Secretary General of the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) at the World Bank, Mr. Zamrak Khan, and members of the Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP) of the US Department of Commerce. The delegation’s visit aims to interact with U.S. counterparts to share knowledge and expertise crucial for strengthening both domestic and cross-border dispute settlement environments, improving contract enforcement, reducing court backlogs, and ensuring efficient and effective access to justice for Pakistani citizens, businesses, and investors.



Ambassador Sheikh highlighted the positive trajectory of Pakistan-U.S. relations and emphasized the importance of such high-level exchanges for strengthening multifaceted ties and building capacities for better service delivery and justice dispensation. He advocated for more frequent interactions at various levels to improve the justice system and advance legal reforms. Justice Shahid Waheed described the visit as a hopeful journey toward an efficient and speedy justice system in Pakistan. Mrs. Polášek expressed hope that the visit would facilitate knowledge sharing and foster stronger ties between the two nations.
