Islamabad, Senator Shahadat Awan led his inaugural meeting as Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Water Resources, focusing on addressing Pakistan’s water challenges and policy development.
According to Senate of Pakistan, the committee’s agenda included a detailed review of current water resource management strategies and the formulation of new policies to ensure sustainable water use and conservation across the country. Discussions centered on improving irrigation systems, enhancing water conservation techniques, and addressing the urgent needs of water-scarce regions.
The meeting also examined proposals for increasing the efficiency of water usage in agriculture, which consumes a significant portion of the nation’s water supply. Members of the committee debated the implementation of modern irrigation technologies and the potential for legislative support to regulate water distribution more effectively.
Senator Awan emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts between government bodies, local communities, and international partners to address the complexities of water management. He highlighted the need for increased investment in water infrastructure to prevent future crises.
The committee agreed to submit a series of recommendations to the Senate, aiming to bolster national water policies and ensure a sustainable water future for Pakistan.
