Skardu: Chairperson of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), Senator Rubina Khalid, visited the BISP Zonal Office in Skardu, engaging with local women and outlining new initiatives aimed at enhancing their economic status. During her visit, she addressed issues raised by the women, participated in a tree planting campaign, and announced the launch of the Benazir Skills Training Program.
According to Press Information Department, Senator Khalid interacted closely with the women beneficiaries of BISP, ensuring their concerns were heard and promptly addressed by the local staff. The visit also included briefings by BISP’s regional directors, who detailed the operations and challenges in Gilgit-Baltistan. Senator Khalid emphasized the importance of transparent and efficient service delivery, particularly highlighting the official communication channels of BISP to safeguard against fraudulent activities.
Further, Senator Khalid inaugurated the Benazir Skills Training Program during her visit. This initiative is designed to provide vocational training to women and their children, aligning with both local needs and international standards to meet the global demand for skilled labor. She disclosed that 9.3 million families are currently benefiting from BISP’s Kafaalat program, with expansions planned to increase the number of eligible families and the stipends provided.
The visit underscored the government’s commitment to the economic empowerment of women, in line with the vision of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto. It also highlighted the use of innovative solutions like Mobile Registration Vans to reach potential beneficiaries in remote areas, ensuring that assistance is delivered in a dignified and transparent manner.
