Senator Mohsin Aziz chairs a meeting of Senate Standing Committee on Interior 

Islamabad, December 28, 2021 (PPI-OT):Senate Standing Committee on Interior met here on Tuesday at Parliament House under the chairmanship of Senator Mohsin Aziz. Senators Saifullah Abro, Rana Maqbool Ahmed, Samina Mumtaz, Azam Nazir Tarar, Fawzia Arshad, Talha Mahmood, Shahadat Awan, Faisal Saleem attended the meeting while Senator Mushtaq Ahmed participated as a mover. High Officials from the Ministry of Interior, FIA and Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, Hamza Shafqaat also participated in the meeting.

The Islamabad Capital Territory Waqf Properties (Amendment) Bill, 2021, moved by Senator Mushtaq Ahmed, was discussed in detail in the committee meeting. He observed that Religious scholars should also be asked about the terms of waqf. Senator Mushtaq said that while debating the bill, expert opinion should also need to have their say on the amendment bill. The official from the ministry of interior remarked that a lot of work had been done on the previous law and was brought keeping in view the requirements of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).

Senator Rana Maqbool was of the view that the Opinion from the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) should also need to be taken into consideration on the amendment bill. Senator Mushtaq Ahmed asserted that Religious madrassas were also ready for Auditing and opening of bank accounts, but the government was reluctant. After deliberation, the Chairman Committee recessed the bill for further discussion till the next meeting. He also called for a comparative clause-by-clause review and analysis of the prevailing laws of other provinces before giving any decision on the moved bill.

The matter of Wajeeha Swati (Late) murder case was also raised in the committee meeting. After talking out the issue, the Chairman Committee showed his intent to summon IG Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and RPO Rawalpindi in the next meeting along with a report on the subject.

In the committee meeting, affectees of various housing societies (Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission Employees Cooperative Housing Society, Jammu and Kashmir Housing Society, Pakistan Medical Cooperative Housing Society, Ghauri Town Housing Society and Ghauri Green Housing Society) also appeared in person and expressed their grievances. After hearing the affectees, in consultation with the members of the committee, the chairman formed a sub-committee of the Senate Standing Committee on Interior to probe into the matter.
