Islamabad, July 22, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Senate Standing Committee on Friday demanded the Special Secretary, Ministry of Interior to provide full proof security to Senator Sarfaraz Ahmed Bugti and deploy both Frontier Corps and Police officials for the security of Senator Sarfaraz Ahmed Bugti within 3 days.
The Committee showed critical concern on the absence of Inspector General Police Balochistan and the Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa respectively on the recent incidents of attack on the convoy of Senator Sarfaraz Ahmed Bugti at Balochistan’s Rojhanpur area and incident of Bomb Attack at the House of Senator Haji Hidayat ullah Khan at Din Bihar Colony, Peshawar.
The committee expressed resentment on the absence of the state officials on crucial life threatening matters of high level parliamentarians. “If this is the attitude, towards parliamentarians, let alone the security and safety of the general public” Senator Moula Bux Chandio added. The committee pointed out that the absence of the IG Balochistan, IG KPK and IG Islamabad is unacceptable.
“The absence of the IG’s has been observed 16 times now” pointed out Senator Shahadat Awan. Secretary Interior as well as Chief Secretary KPK also remained absent. Senator Sarfaraz Ahmad Bugti said that so far no organization has officially claimed responsibility for the attack, “ forty nine (49) target killings has been reported in the area so far, every person cannot be given security; we need a secure environment instead” he lamented. Chairman Committee deferred the matter with the directions to the Special Secretary Interior to provide security to Senator Sarfaraz Ahmed Bugti and Senator Haji Hidayatullah.
The committee sought progress report on the attack of the convoy of Senator Sarfaraz Ahmed Bugti and of all such incidents including target killing in the area and actions taken against it. The committee also pointed out that further absence of the aforementioned officials will lead to disciplinary action against them.
The progress report submitted by the Senior Superintendent of Police in Sarfaraz Bugti case stated that apparently the road side timer or remote controlled IED has been used in the incident. However, on receipt of report from PFSA, the exact details of the explosive used in the incident shall be available so far, no weapon has been recovered from the site of occurrence.
The report also said that no casualties were reported. One gunmen of Senator Sarfaraz Bugti namely Muhammad Khaliq sustained injuries. The officials ensured that all efforts are being made to trace the case on priority.
On the matter of bomb attack at the house of Senator Haji Hidayat Ullah khan the SSP, Peshawar apprised the committee that no lead in the case has been identified so far. “There is no Peshawar safe city Projects which can aid such cases” the SSP added.
The SSP also informed that 12000 CDR’s are working on the case and call data of the suspected ae collecting through geofencing. The committee directed to report the matter within a fort night and also directed to provide security to the Senator Haji Hidayatullah for 15 days till the submission of the investigation report.
Discussion on the incident of hand grenade attacks by extortionists in the Industrial Estate Jamrud road, Peshawar and receiving of threatening calls to the Industries causing wide spread panic amongst the business community was also discussed in detail.
The officials informed the committee that Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) Police has recently launched an android-based mobile application called One-Click SOS System for reporting any suspicious or terror activities across all districts of the province. The application can be used to report such incidents on the spot with a single click from the vicinity of educational institutions, business hubs and residential areas.
With the help of Global Positioning System embedded in the android mobile device, the data and location shall be transmitted to the local police control room and field officers of the area who shall be dispatched as soon as possible to contain the prevailing situation. Along with the system, dedicated security cameras have also been placed in certain selected places such as banks and National Database and Registration Authority offices for security purposes.
Matter regarding hurdles being created by the local administration of Murree in construction of a project at Kashmir Point Murree, “Ashley Green Apartment” which was great attraction for the tourists also taken up.
The committee severely condemned the demolishing of the building of Ashley Green Apartments which was contributing to the beauty and enhancement of tourist activities in the valley. The committee termed the razing of the building an illegal act since the owner obtained the approval of the project from the IHC and the by-laws allowed 75 pc of cover construction on the area.
The owner of the land, Former Senator Aurangzeb khan said that the Ashley apartments was the only building in the tourist spot that provided a parking of 200 cars and contributed in the job opportunities in the area. The committee proposed to constitute a sub-committee on the matter and investigate on all the buildings constructed in the area and evaluate if the complainant has been treated in any discriminatory way.
The meeting was attended by Senators, Moula Bux Chandio, Faisal Saleem Rehman, Shahadat Awan , Fawzia Arshad, and Senator Sarfaraz Bugti, while Senator Haji Hidayatullah Khan and Senators Aurangzeb Orakzai, Faisal Javed, Shibli Faraz and Senator Fida Muhammad khan as a special invitee. Special Secretary Interior, Deputy Commissioner FC head quarter Peshawar, Secretary Hoe department KPK, DC ICT SSP operation Peshawar, and representatives of cybercrime and counter terrorism were also in attendance.
