Senate Urges Government to Boost Women’s Economic Inclusion and Honors Zulfikar Ali Bhutto

Islamabad, The Senate of Pakistan today passed a resolution urging the government to take definitive steps towards bolstering women’s economic participation.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the resolution was introduced by Senator Seemee Ezdi and it called for action to improve the recruitment, retention, and development of women in the workforce. This includes the implementation of effective education and skill-building programs and the introduction of gender-sensitive policies to create inclusive work environments conducive to women’s well-being and advancement.

The Senate also unanimously passed a second resolution, moved by Senator Rukhsana Zuberi, demanding that the Federal Government acknowledge the late former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto as a national democratic hero. The resolution came after the Supreme Court recognized that Bhutto was denied a fair trial and due process. It also proposed the creation of the Nishan-e-Zulfikar Ali Bhutto award to honor political workers and activists who have dedicated their lives to the cause of democracy.

Additionally, the Senate’s session featured farewell addresses from various members. Senator Ejaz Ahmad Chaudhary of the PTI was granted permission to vote in the upcoming presidential elections. Leader of the House, Ishaq Dar, emphasized the need for national reconciliation and economic collaboration to address Pakistan’s challenges. He encouraged political unity to elevate Pakistan among the world’s top economies, noting its status as a nuclear power.

Senators also addressed the need for the Senate’s financial empowerment, the resolution of the missing persons issue, and the prioritization of relief efforts for the general populace over political point scoring.

Deputy Chairman Mirza Muhammad Afridi made his farewell remarks, reflecting on his commitment to constitutional supremacy and expressing gratitude towards the media and support staff.

Following these events, the Senate session was officially prorogued.
