Islamabad: The Sub-Committee of the Senate Standing Committee on Interior and Narcotics Control, led by Senator Saifullah Abro, convened at Parliament House to address recent media reports linking Senators Faisal Saleem Rahman and Dilawar Khan to the seizure of 11 trucks loaded with cigarettes on the motorway. The committee discussed border security, smuggling, anti-narcotics measures, and significant tax evasion issues.

According to Senate of Pakistan, the committee condemned the media coverage and character assassination of its members following a previous meeting on July 20, 2026. The Committee directed the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to review the media handout responsible for the alleged smear campaign and instructed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to conduct an impartial inquiry into the media reports. Concerns were raised about jurisdictional issues, valuation discrepancies, and legal procedures related to the truck seizure. The Committee also scrutinized the issuance of manual Consumption Certificates and demanded a detailed report on tax-exempted imports, emphasizing its commitment to addressing systemic malpractices and corruption.
