Islamabad, June 02, 2022 (PPI-OT):Meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Federal Education, Professional Training, National Heritage and Culture was held at Parliament House today with Senator Irfan Siddiqui in Chair. Committee considered the Bill titled “The Smart University of Science and Technology Bill, 2022″ introduced by Senator Dilawar Khan, Senator Naseebullah Bazai and Prince Ahmed Omer Ahmedzai in the Senate sitting held on 23rd May 2022.

Officials from Ministry of the law were of the view that Education is a devolved subject after 18th Amendment and the proposed university lies within jurisdiction of Punjab Government, consequently the Senate cannot legislate on the matter. However, the representative of the Law Ministry opined that this forum is competent to consider the establishment of an Institute.

After due deliberations, Committee unanimously passed the Bill with amendment declaring the proposed university as “Institute”. Committee meeting was attended by Senators, Naseebullah Bazai, Dilawar Khan, Fawzia Arshad, Rana Maqbool Ahmed, Eng. Rukhsana Zuberi, officials from the Ministry of Law and HEC.
