Islamabad: The Senate Secretariat, under the leadership of Chairman Senate Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, has announced a series of austerity and energy conservation measures designed to align with the policy directives set forth by the Federal Government. These initiatives aim to promote fiscal discipline, efficient resource utilization, and responsible governance amidst current global and regional challenges.
According to Senate of Pakistan, the austerity measures, directed by the Cabinet Division, will see the Senate Secretariat adopt a four-day working week from Monday to Thursday, except during Senate sessions. A rotational system will enable 50 percent of the staff to work from home, maintaining operational continuity while reducing costs. The Secretariat plans to achieve a 70 percent reduction in electricity usage and transport expenditures, alongside a voluntary pay cut for Senators and senior officers. These moves reflect the Senate’s commitment to fiscal prudence and energy efficiency.
