Senate Moves to Enhance Committee Structure and Tackle Environmental Issues


Islamabad, The Senate has passed a motion to establish and restructure its standing and functional committees, alongside adopting measures to address environmental and climate challenges. The session was marked by significant legislative activity, including the introduction of bills aimed at conservation, disability rights, and criminal justice reform.



According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the motion, led by Senator Sherry Rehman, grants the Chairman authority to alter committee compositions as needed. Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar outlined the government’s commitment to support the Senate’s efforts and highlighted new environmental regulations aimed at phasing out small plastic bottles within four years.



Additional discussions focused on climate change resilience, with plans to initiate a $57 million Recharge Pakistan project to utilize floodwaters and introduce climate-resilient seeds to protect agriculture. The Senate also passed a resolution for special funding to develop rail infrastructure in Balochistan, reflecting a broad agenda to enhance national development and environmental stewardship.
