Senate Informs of Government’s Ambitious Export Targets and Legislative Progress


Islamabad, The Senate today discussed several key governmental commitments and legislative developments aimed at boosting Pakistan’s economy and enhancing its exports to Rs50 billion. During the session, the government’s strategy for increasing the export volume to thirty billion dollars this month was highlighted.



According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Azam Nazeer Tarar, during Question Hour, stated that the Federal Board of Revenue has been directed to implement exporter-friendly policies. He also noted the activation of the National Exports Board, chaired by the Prime Minister, and efforts to strengthen export ties with friendly nations.



In addition to economic strategies, the session addressed infrastructural enhancements. Minister for Industries and Production Rana Tanveer Hussain detailed the establishment of export processing zones on Pakistan Steel Mills’ land, part of which has been allocated to the Sindh government for optimal use.



Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari responded to concerns about the power system, promising significant improvements in the transmission system within the next two to three years.



The Senate also passed several bills, including “The Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (Amendment) Bill, 2024,” which alters the appointment process for the Director General of Radio Pakistan and increases the representation of independent directors on the PBC board. Other legislative actions included amendments to the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation, Pakistan Postal Services Management Board, and National Highway Authority.



The session concluded with the introduction of two ordinances: the Elections (Amendment) Ordinance, 2024, and the National Accountability (Amendment) Ordinance, 2024. The Senate has adjourned and will reconvene tomorrow evening.
