Senate Deliberates on Key Legislative Proposals


Islamabad: Three significant bills were introduced in the Senate today, reflecting ongoing legislative efforts to address mental health, taxation, and education within the country. Alongside these developments, the Senate passed two other amendments aimed at improving parliamentary and judicial processes.



According to a statement by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the proposed bills include the Mental Health Amendment Bill, 2025, the Income Tax Amendment Bill, 2025, and the University of Business, Sciences and Technology Bill, 2025. These bills have been forwarded to the relevant Standing Committees for further consideration.



In a session marked by a solemn tribute to those lost in recent terrorist acts, the Senate also approved the Members of Parliament (Salaries and Allowances) Amendment Bill, 2025. This bill was introduced by Senator Danesh Kumar, aiming to modify the financial provisions concerning parliamentary members.



Additionally, the Anti-Rape (Investigation and Trial) (Amendment) Bill, 2023, was passed, signaling a step toward enhancing the legal framework for addressing sexual violence cases.



The Senate is scheduled to reconvene tomorrow morning at 11:30 to continue its legislative agenda.
