Islamabad: A sub-committee of the Senate Functional Committee on Devolution convened a meeting at the Old PIPS Hall, Parliament Lodges, to review the application of Article 38(g) of the Constitution, focusing on provincial employment shares across federal ministries and corporate boards. The meeting, led by Senator Zamir Hussain Ghumro and attended by Senators Poonjo Bheel and Jan Muhammad, along with senior officials from various divisions, aimed to address inequities in employment and revenue distribution.

According to Senate of Pakistan, the Chairman of the Committee emphasized the need for objective implementation of provincial shares to ensure underserved regions receive their constitutional entitlements without bias. The Additional Secretary of the Establishment Division was tasked with addressing current omissions and reporting on provincial representation shortfalls as a matter of urgency.

The session also examined the constitutional mechanism for managing natural resources, particularly post the 18th Amendment, and reviewed the financial contributions of oil and gas companies over the past 16 years. The Committee instructed the preparation of a disbursal proposal based on these figures and was briefed by the Secretary Petroleum on the existing 50/50 revenue-sharing framework between the federal government and provinces. To ensure fair distribution of joint assets and revenues, the Committee called for legislative and administrative changes, with a compliance report due by next week.
