Islamabad: The Senate of Pakistan today adopted a resolution commending the government for its successful orchestration of the SCO Council of Heads of the Government meeting, which recently concluded in Islamabad. Moved by Senator Sherry Rehman, the resolution highlighted the significant advancements made during the summit that are expected to bolster Pakistan’s geo-economic stature and its role in regional connectivity and development.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the resolution recognized the summit’s impact on fostering regional investment, infrastructure enhancement, climate initiatives, and security collaboration. The Senate expressed confidence that the outcomes of the SCO meeting would significantly contribute to Pakistan’s strategic goals in the region.
In addition to the resolution, the Senate session was a legislative hub today, with the passage of the Deposit Protection Corporation Amendment Bill, 2024, introduced by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb. The minister explained that the bill is designed to fortify the nation’s financial system further.
Furthermore, the Senate passed the Establishment of Special Court (Overseas Pakistanis Property) Bill, which was moved by the Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development, Chaudhry Salik Hussain. This bill aims to resolve property-related issues faced by overseas Pakistanis, enhancing protections and streamlining legal processes for expatriates.
Another significant legislative item, the National Forensics Agency Bill, 2024, was also laid before the House by Finance Minister Aurangzeb. This bill has been referred to the concerned Standing Committee for further scrutiny.
The Senate has adjourned and is scheduled to reconvene tomorrow at 2 pm for further proceedings. Today’s session underscored the government’s commitment to legislative development and international diplomacy, particularly through the successful hosting of the SCO summit.
