Islamabad, Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani emphasized the role of sports, particularly football, in fostering societal transformation during a meeting with an international football delegation at Parliament House on Monday.
According to Press Information Department, Gilani conveyed the potential of football to bridge cultural divides and inspire passion globally, noting Pakistan’s untapped potential in the sport.
Gilani praised the efforts of the Pakistan Football League (PFL) UK for their pioneering role in bringing international football standards to Pakistan and their commitment to social development through initiatives like “Football 4 Hope.” He recognized the significant impact of professional coaching and nurturing in producing world-class football players from Pakistan. During his address, Gilani also highlighted the upcoming introduction of ten football teams from various cities including Multan, Lahore, Peshawar, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Quetta, and Islamabad, aimed at enhancing the sport’s infrastructure and visibility across the country.
The Chairman Senate reiterated his full support for the development of state-of-the-art football facilities and the nurturing of local talent. Prominent figures such as Michael Owen, an official ambassador for the PFL and a noted football star, also spoke at the event, acknowledging the high sports potential in Pakistan and the importance of these initiatives in uncovering new talent.
