Senate Chairman Gilani Marks August 5 as Dark Day for Kashmir

Islamabad: Chairman of the Senate, Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, declared August 5, 2019, a dark day in history, marking the date when India revoked the special status of Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, in his Youm-e-Istehsal message, Gilani criticized the Indian government’s actions, stating they would not alter the factual status of Kashmir or suppress the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination. He emphasized that these actions have failed to silence the voices of Kashmiris seeking justice and autonomy.

The Chairman underscored the necessity for the international community to recognize the ongoing hardships faced by the people in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). He reiterated Pakistan’s desire for regional peace, which he said hinges on the peaceful resolution of the Kashmir issue, reflecting the will and aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
