Senate Chairman Gilani Advocates for Sustainable Technology at APAN-58 in Islamabad

Islamabad: The 58th Asia-Pacific Advanced Network Meeting (APAN-58), focusing on sustainable technological advancement, commenced in Islamabad, with Chairman Senate Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani underscoring Pakistan’s commitment to integrating technology with green practices.

According to Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, the event, hosted by Pakistan Education Research Network (PERN), saw significant participation, including Chairman HEC Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed and APAN Chairman Mr. Shinji Shimoji. The meeting serves as a critical platform for international collaboration, aiming to foster educational and networking opportunities, particularly for marginalized communities.

Chairman Gilani highlighted the dual challenges of technological expansion and internet access, noting that about 50% of Pakistan lacks internet connectivity. He stressed the importance of APAN and PERN’s role in enhancing global connectivity and addressing pressing issues like climate change and poverty through informed partnerships.

The event, spanning five days, features workshops and presentations designed to propel technological and educational advancements. Over 40 participants from 17 APAN member countries attended in person, with more than a hundred joining virtually, emphasizing a global commitment to shared learning and technological progress.
