Senate and National Assembly Committees Convene on Constitutional Amendment

Islamabad: A joint meeting of the Senate and National Assembly’s Standing Committees on Law and Justice is set to take place today, focusing on the Twenty-Seventh Constitutional Amendment Bill, 2025. This meeting is a critical step in the legislative process, aiming to discuss areas of consensus that have emerged among coalition partners.

Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, has confirmed ongoing consultations with coalition partners about the proposed amendment. He indicated that only the points where consensus is achieved will be included in the final draft of the amendment.

In discussions with a private news channel, Dr. Chaudhry revealed that the Pakistan Peoples Party has agreed on three specific points related to the amendment. These points are crucial as they form the basis of the current negotiations and will shape the eventual legislative proposal.

The meeting will be co-chaired by Senator Farooq H. Naek, Chairperson of the Senate Standing Committee, and MNA Chaudhry Mahmood Bashir Virk, Chairperson of the National Assembly Standing Committee. Their leadership will guide the discussions as both committees work towards finalizing the amendment process.

The outcome of today’s meeting is expected to set the groundwork for further legislative actions and discussions surrounding the Twenty-Seventh Amendment Bill.
