Security Tightens in Jammu and Kashmir Ahead of India’s Independence Day

Srinagar: On the eve of India’s Independence Day, authorities in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) have implemented stringent security measures to prevent any potential unrest or demonstrations against Indian rule. The increased restrictions have intensified in key areas, particularly around Bakshi Stadium, the main venue for the day’s celebrations.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the heightened security protocols include multi-tiered barricades at strategic locations and thorough vehicle checks on the Jammu-Srinagar highway, aimed at stifling expressions of dissent and ensuring the day proceeds without incident. Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Zone, V K Birdi stated that these measures are necessary to maintain peace during the celebrations.

Further emphasizing the security focus, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Udhampur, Prehlad Kumar, has called on the public to report any suspicious activities, reflecting the tense atmosphere in the region. These steps highlight the ongoing conflict and the sensitive nature of the territory’s status, recognized by the UN and the international community as disputed since 1947.
