Mumbai, May 20, 2022 (PPI-OT):The security in and around the grave of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb in Khuldabad was tightened following calls by Hindutva Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) to ‘uproot’ it.

While Maharashtra Navnirman Sena activist Gajanan Kale questioned the need for preserving Aurangzeb’s grave, BJP MLC Prasad Lad has threatened to remove the small monument which is one of the major tourist attractions in and around Aurangabad.

In the wake of the potential threats to the grave, the Maharashtra Police and Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) have deployed additional guards and a van at the site, though it is still open for public. The BJP MLC Prasad has called upon the state government to immediately yank off the new security measures and vowed to uproot the Mughal Emperor’s grave.

Meanwhile, in the wake of a slew of petitions filed in various courts over the Krishna Janmabhoomi-Shahi Eidgah dispute in Lucknow, the Uttar Pradesh police have directed its units in eight districts to ‘remain on high alert’. The petitioners have sought restrictions on the presence of Muslims at the mosque, situated near the Krishna temple complex in the city.
