Security Measures Intensified in Doda and Kishtwar Ahead of Controversial Elections

Jammu: In anticipation of the upcoming assembly elections scheduled for September 18 in the Doda and Kishtwar districts of Jammu and Kashmir, authorities have significantly tightened restrictions and increased military and police presence. The measures come amid local opposition to what many residents consider “sham” elections in the disputed territory.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the enhanced security setup includes additional deployment of Indian army, police, and paramilitary forces throughout the two districts. This escalation in security has led to a tense atmosphere, with locals expressing concerns about the impact on their freedom and safety.

The report further notes that many in Kashmir are opposed to the elections, seeing them as illegitimate and instead are calling for the right to self-determination—a stance that is backed by resolutions from the United Nations Security Council.
