Islamabad: In a decisive response to an attempted terrorist attack, security forces killed 10 terrorists at Bannu Cantonment, averting what could have been a major catastrophe. The operation took place early yesterday morning when terrorists tried to breach the cantonment’s defenses.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the terrorists attempted to infiltrate the cantonment but were repelled by security personnel. In their retreat, the attackers used an explosive-laden vehicle to ram into the cantonment’s perimeter wall, causing a portion to collapse and damaging nearby infrastructure. This initial blast resulted in the tragic loss of eight security personnel. The ensuing operation by the troops swiftly neutralized all ten attackers involved.
The ISPR has identified the attackers as members of the Hafiz Gul Bahadur group, a terrorist organization operating from Afghanistan. This group has previously used Afghan territory to plan and execute similar attacks inside Pakistan. The ISPR also noted that Pakistan has continuously voiced its concerns to the Interim Afghan Government, urging them to prevent the use of their soil for terrorist activities and to take effective measures against such groups.
The Armed Forces have reaffirmed their commitment to defending Pakistan against these threats and will continue to take all necessary actions to protect the nation from terrorism emanating from across the border.
