Lahore, July 30, 2021 (PPI-OT):Secretary Tourism and Archaeology Department (TAD) Captain (r) Mushtaq Ahmad on Thursday has chaired a preparatory meeting for Destination investment and management plans (DIMPs) with a Spanish delegation. The foreign delegation from HIDRIA a Spanish business association, MD TDCP Tanveer Jabbar, Mr Shahid Butt, Dr Kiran Farhan, Syed Usman (PTEGP), Ms Imrana Tiwana and other officials also attended the meeting.
During the meeting, a wide range of issues came under the discussion. Tourism Department discussed baseline survey for priority tourism destination, tourism investment plan, destination management plan, visitor management plan, ground realities and geographical scope with the Spanish delegation. PTEGP spokesperson briefed the meeting that Tourism Department’s Investment plan involves whole district and its importance rather than focusing on whole site “Punjab is endowed with a wide array of cultural, religious and heritage sites that reveal the presence of several civilizations, so we ensure to protect it,” said Secretary Tourism.
“For promotion of religious and heritage tourism, public and private sector should work together for development,” he further said. In addition, Secretary apprised the Spanish delegation to visit the tourist sites for more insights and told them that one representative from each department will accompany them during their visits. He ensured the delegation that Punjab government is the custodian of whole six months project.
The MD TDCP said there is a captive market for religious sites attractive for both national and international tourists. Meanwhile, the PTEGP spokesperson informed meeting that a report on destination investment plan and four district destinations have been submitted. He said that after the submission of initial report, it will be evaluated and approved by the Tourism department, P and D and World Bank.
