Islamabad: The Secretary of the Women’s Parliamentary Caucus (WPC), Dr. Shahida Rehmani, convened a meeting with the Ambassador of Germany to Pakistan, Ms. Ina Lepel, and the First Secretary for Human Rights and Migration at the German Embassy, Ms. Violetta Anand Kuzmova, at the National Assembly Secretariat. The meeting aimed to discuss efforts in advancing gender equality and enhancing parliamentary cooperation between Pakistan and Germany.
According to National Assembly of Pakistan, Dr. Rehmani briefed the German delegation about the role of the WPC, a cross-party platform that focuses on gender equality, women’s political participation, and the promotion of relevant legislation and policies. Ms. Lepel acknowledged the contributions of the WPC and outlined Germany’s initiatives in areas such as access to justice, skill development, and climate change in Pakistan. She affirmed Germany’s commitment to supporting development initiatives that foster institutional strengthening and inclusive growth.
Both parties emphasized the significance of enhanced parliamentary cooperation and proposed organizing learning exchanges between women parliamentarians from Pakistan and members of the German Bundestag. Dr. Rehmani highlighted that these engagements, through physical or virtual interactions, could facilitate experience sharing and promote policy perspectives on women’s leadership and democratic governance. Sustained dialogue and collaboration on shared priorities, including human rights and women’s empowerment, were also discussed.
The meeting concluded with the WPC expressing appreciation for Germany’s support for Pakistan’s development. It reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening future cooperation. The meeting was attended by several members of the WPC, including the Convenor of the Parliamentary Caucus on Child Rights and other parliamentary secretaries and senators.
