Secretary General of IMO Discusses Maritime Collaboration with Pakistan’s Prime Minister


Islamabad: Secretary General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), Mr. Arsenio Antonio Dominguez Velasco, met with Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif to discuss strengthening collaboration and advancing Pakistan’s maritime interests.



According to Press Information Department, the meeting held today focused on reinforcing the partnership between Pakistan and the IMO. Prime Minister Sharif expressed his government’s commitment to enhancing fisheries, expanding maritime trade, exploring offshore resources, and promoting coastal tourism. He stressed on prioritizing the blue economy to bolster economic development and highlighted the role of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) in attracting investments and introducing modern technologies in the fisheries and shipbreaking sectors.



The Prime Minister also emphasized Pakistan’s dedication to working with international partners and the IMO to reduce maritime emissions and enhance the country’s position in the global maritime community. Secretary General Velasco acknowledged the proactive efforts of Prime Minister Sharif and Pakistan’s active participation in the international maritime community, assuring continued support from the IMO for sustainable development.
