School Closures in Jammu Challenge Indian Government’s Normalcy Claims

Jammu: Recent closures of numerous educational institutions in the Jammu division, including those run by the Indian Army, cast doubt on the Indian government’s assertions of restored peace and normalcy in the region of Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

According to Kashmir Media Service, the decision to close the schools followed a high alert across the Jammu area, affecting several institutions such as the Indian Army’s Public and Goodwill Schools and Kendriya Vidyalayas located within military cantonments in the Jammu province and along the Jammu-Pathankot Highway. The closures, impacting at least a dozen army schools in critical areas like Sunjuwan and Domana, are part of a broader security measure in response to specific threats targeting educational establishments.

Further reports from Indian media suggest that these closures are based on intelligence warnings about potential security threats to schools in the area, necessitating precautionary measures. The IIOJK administration, along with Indian security agencies, has declared that the affected schools will remain shut until the security situation is reassessed and safety can be guaranteed.
