Paris: Pakistani folk and Sufi singer Sanam Marvi captivated a full house with her performance at the Theatre de la Ville in Paris on Sunday. The concert, co-organized by the Embassy of Pakistan and the Theatre de la Ville, offered Parisians a rare chance to experience Marvi’s powerful vocals and her representation of Pakistan’s spiritual heritage.
Ambassador of Pakistan, Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, praised Marvi’s performance and extended gratitude to the Theatre de la Ville for reviving Pakistani music in the city. She acknowledged the theater’s management, headed by Soudabeh Kia, for their commitment to promoting global art and music, noting that the late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan had also graced the venue in the past.
Ambassador Baloch highlighted the importance of ‘cultural diplomacy’ in connecting people and nations. She expressed satisfaction with the sold-out event and hoped for more artistic collaborations between Pakistan and France.
Sanam Marvi, reflecting on her experience, noted that music is an essential part of life and expressed her gratitude for the international audience’s appreciation. Originating from Sindh, Pakistan, Marvi has gained global acclaim for her distinct style in folk and Sufi music.
The Theatre de la Ville management emphasized that performances like Marvi’s allow French audiences to enjoy and appreciate international music, reinforcing the idea that ‘music has no boundaries.’ The program aimed to foster a love for global music and introduce foreign artists and their cultures to French audiences.
