Saghar Urges Trump to Revisit Mediation Offer on Kashmir

Islamabad: Mehmood Ahmed Saghar, acting chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party, has expressed hope that newly elected US President Donald Trump will fulfill his previous pledge to mediate in the Kashmir dispute.

According to a statement by Kashmir Media Service, Saghar conveyed these sentiments in a letter to President Trump, urging the new administration to prioritize conflict resolution, especially concerning the Kashmir issue.

In the letter, Saghar highlighted the enduring nature of the Kashmir conflict, which has resulted in prolonged unrest, rights violations, and militarization in the region. He appealed for US intervention, recalling Trump’s earlier offer to mediate—a proposal welcomed by Kashmiris but dismissed by India.

Saghar emphasized the United States’ historical involvement as a co-sponsor of a UN resolution that promised the right to self-determination for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He expressed optimism that Trump’s leadership would focus on resolving global disputes, particularly the Kashmir conflict, which remains a source of instability and rights infringements in the area.
