Islamabad, Dr. Shahzad Khan Bangash, Federal Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Works, today inspected the Shaheed-e-Millat Secretariat in Islamabad. The visit focused on the building’s lifts, which were rendered non-operational due to technical issues. DG PWD and maintenance personnel briefed Dr. Bangash about the lifts’ installation in 2006 and the subsequent challenges, leading to their closure to preclude mishaps.
According to Press Information Department, Experts from a French company are currently reviewing the lifts to offer recommendations, possibly including replacements. Dr. Bangash stressed the need for regular lift maintenance and ordered the immediate procurement of three new lifts, highlighting public safety as paramount. Further, the Secretary mandated necessary repairs for the building, instructing the GD Pak.PWD to address them promptly. He also directed the building management to establish a maintenance schedule, ensuring proper documentation of all inspections and repairs. Accompanying Dr. Bangash during this visit were notable officials, including Mr. Waqas Ali Mehmood, Additional Secretary (H and W), Mr. Ashfaq Ghuman, Senior Joint Secretary (H and W), and other senior representatives of the Housing Ministry.
