Sacked contractual employees stage protest in Srinagar

Srinagar, October 03, 2021 (PPI-OT): In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, scores of contractual employees of India’s National Health Mission (NHM) staged a protest demonstration against their termination at the Press Enclave in Srinagar. According to Kashmir Media Service, demanding continued and permanent services the terminated employees were raising slogans demanding justice and against, what they called use and throw policy of the authorities.

The sacked NHM employees said that they had put their lives at risk when Covid-19 hit the territory, and instead of honouring them they are being sacked without any reason or any prior notice. Shahid Bashir, a protestor, speaking to media, said: “At the time of appointment we were told that our contracts will be continued up to three to six months or till Covid-19 is over, however, our termination order came even when Covid threat still looming,” he added.

He said that they were deputed to several GMCs and district hospitals last year at the peak of the first wave of COVI-19 when no one wanted to leave their homes. “We were promised that our services will be regularized if we serve during the Covid period. But instead of regularizing us, they kicked us out after using us during the worst period of Covid, “he further said.

A girl protester, wishing anonymity, said, the authorities are claiming that they will provide jobs to young people but instead of providing jobs to people they are sacking those who were working temporarily. Another girl protester said that they were treated well when the government needed them and threw them out when they needed the government support.
