Islamabad: The supply of the Russian Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) vaccine to Pakistan has been restored, a development that is expected to bring significant relief to the nation’s livestock sector. The vaccine’s availability is anticipated to help combat the disease, which has afflicted millions of livestock in Pakistan and disrupted both production and exports.

According to Radio Pakistan, the restoration of the vaccine supply was facilitated by the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), which played a critical role in resolving the supply issues. Over the past three years, approximately 2,100 cases of FMD have been reported in the country. The resumption of vaccine distribution is expected to bolster the confidence of livestock farmers and enhance the nation’s disease prevention system.

Russian Trade Representative Denis A. Nevzorov acknowledged the effective coordination among relevant agencies, particularly highlighting the efforts of the SIFC in addressing this pressing issue. The restored supply is seen as a step forward in supporting the agricultural sector and stabilizing livestock health in Pakistan.
