Russia and Pakistan Sign MoU to Strengthen Bilateral Ties During Deputy Prime Minister Overchuk’s Visit to Islamabad


Islamabad: In a significant development aimed at bolstering bilateral relations, Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Alexei Overchuk met with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif today. The two leaders oversaw the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that encompasses cooperation across various sectors including trade, investment, energy, IT, agriculture, science and technology, and education.



According to Press Information Department, the meeting was held at the Prime Minister’s office where Mr. Sharif expressed his enthusiasm about strengthening ties with Russia, highlighting it as a key aspect of Pakistan’s foreign policy. The Prime Minister emphasized Pakistan’s eagerness to enhance trade, economic, energy, connectivity, and security cooperation with Russia. He also mentioned his productive discussion with President Vladimir Putin earlier in July and expressed gratitude towards President Putin for his support in sending a high-level delegation to further discuss bilateral cooperation.



During the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Overchuk thanked Prime Minister Sharif for the hospitality extended to him and his delegation and reaffirmed Russia’s commitment to deepening its relationship with Pakistan. He described the bilateral relations between the two countries as constructive and mutually beneficial.



The leaders agreed to maintain regular contact to ensure the effective implementation of the agreements and to explore new avenues for collaboration. The MoU signed today marks a pivotal step in fostering a closer partnership between Pakistan and Russia, promising enhanced cooperation in multiple fields of mutual interest.
